City of emporia veterans day essay contest 2023

The City of Emporia is proud to announce the Veterans Day Essay Contest for 2023. This contest is open to all students in grades 6 through 12 in the greater Emporia area. The contest theme is Honoring Those Who Serve: A Celebration of Americas Military Veterans.

Students are invited to write an essay of no more than 500 words answering this question: How do we best express gratitude to the men and women who have served our country? Submissions will be judged on content, originality, and organization. The deadline for entries is October 15th, 2023.

The goal of the Veterans Day Essay Contest is to honor our veterans and foster a greater appreciation for their service and sacrifice. This contest gives students an opportunity to learn about the history and importance of Veterans Day and to reflect on the many ways we can show our gratitude to veterans.

The top three entries will be presented with awards at a special ceremony on Veterans Day, November 11th, 2023. First place will receive a $500 prize; second place $300; and third place $200. All winners will also receive a certificate of achievement.

We invite all students to participate in this meaningful event. It is fitting that we honor our veterans by recognizing the best among usour childrenwho have the courage and determination to take up the challenge of expressing their gratitude in writing.
